About Our Class
Spanish is taught to seventh and eighth graders as part of the Encore program. Spanish is a two- year program that emphasizes reading, writing, grammar, and speaking and listening skills. Students will also gather strong background knowledge of Spanish culture and history through research projects, and from their teacher’s personal experiences. This course is equivalent to the freshman Spanish I course taught at Oak Forest High School.
We will be working from the curriculum Descubre 1. Seventh grade students will be studying Lecciones 1-3 while 8th grade students will study Lecciones 4-6. Students can expect to have a vocabulary quizzes, grammar quizzes, and a lesson test that covers all materials learned in the quarter.
Strategy for Success:
- Find a special, quiet place for study.
- Try to study Spanish at a regular time every day. A study routine will greatly facilitate the learning process.
- Remember that class participation and memorization are very important in a foreign language course.
- In reading or listening activities, as well as in the classroom, it is not necessary to understand every word. Listen or look for key words to get the gist of what's being communicated.
- Ask questions in class if you are confused. Remember that other students may have the same question.
- MAKE REAL LIFE CONNECTIONS!!!!
- When learning new vocabulary, think of your own life. For example, "abuela" think about your grandmother (maybe even call her that).
